Witness history being made in the San Francisco Bay! Come celebrate the launch of the Buoyant Ecologies Float Lab, a cutting-edge prototype for climate adaptation research that creates habitats for diverse sea animals in the middle of San Francisco Bay! The Center for Impact and Architectural Ecologies Lab at California College of the Arts are hosting a public launch celebration at Oakland’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, on Saturday, September 21st. The event will feature a community hot dog picnic, a marching band, DIY kite-making and coloring, and remarks by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, project supporters, and stakeholders. All are invited!

During their research trip to the Maldives, the team will present the Buoyant Ecologies and Ecopoesis research projects.

Please join us on March 31 for the opening of the Buoyant Ecologies exhibition at the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco. The exhibition displays the work by students from the fall 2014 CCA Architecture Integrated Studio taught by faculty Adam Marcus, Margaret Ikeda, and Evan Jones. The studio explored speculative proposals for a floating expansion of Autodesk's state-of-the-art Pier 9 Workshop along San Francisco's Embarcadero waterfront. The opening event included short talks by CCA Dean of Architecture Jonathan Massey, project leaders Marcus/Ikeda/Jones, Noah Weinstein and J. Sassaman of Autodesk, ecology research partner John Oliver of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and fabrication research partner Bill Kreysler of Kreysler & Associates.
